Hello again!
This week I had some beef to use, but I forgot to put it in the slow cooker. So I decided to improvise! Also, I had some broccoli that was still good but had started to wilt. What I’m saying is that you can adapt this recipe to fit your needs, maybe try another type of meat (or plant-based alternative if that’s your thing!), or add more veggies as you like!
So here’s my improvisational recipe!
Ingredients:
- Preferred protein – beef, pork, chicken, salmon, plant-based alternative… I used two small cheap cuts of steak, enough for 2 people
- Vegetable(s) of choice – I used 1 small head of broccoli
- 1/3 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup demerara or brown sugar
- Salt
- Pepper
- Garlic (dried or minced)
- Oil or Butter for the pan
- Optional: Sesame seeds and Spring Onions
Method:
- Season your protein with salt, pepper and garlic. Mix well so it sticks. Be careful when salting – you’ll be using soy sauce afterwards, so it might not need any salt at all
- In a large frying pan, heat up some oil or butter
- Brown your protein, but try not to leave it too dry – it will be a bit chewy!
- Boil or sauté your veggies, or use them raw – it’s up to you
- Remove your protein from the pan, and save
- Add to the pan the soy sauce and sugar, and stir everything until the sauce starts to caramelise.
- Add to the pan your protein and the veggies. Let it sit in low heat for 5-7 minutes, mixing everything and incorporating all the flavours
- Turn off the heat, sprinkle some sesame seeds and spring onions on top, and it is ready!
Here is my Broccoli Beef with Teriyaki Sauce (halfway through eating!):

This concoction is not too expensive, not too hard to put together, and in my opinion, leaves some room for adaptation. You can also serve it will a variety of sides, from rice, noodles, pasta… You get the picture.
So that’s it from me this week.
I hope you like this recipe. Please let me know in the comments if you’ve tried it, what you thought, and maybe even send a picture of your version!
Happy cooking!
WoW that’s great 😀
